Nothings to Somethings

Katie McCall is a New Orleans artist and art educator whose work is rooted in conscious consumption and the transformation of overlooked objects. Through upcycling and material reuse, her pieces reflect an intentional relationship with the things we choose to keep, discard, and reinvent.

Working across painting, sculpture, and found materials, her practice shifts alongside her evolving relationship to texture and process. The work explores themes of pattern, color, nature, and local design through an unconventionally modern lens. In newer works, she captures fragments of everyday life like snapshots through a viewfinder, collaging moments together into layered compositions merging abstract texture with realism.

Whether repurposing soda cans, reclaimed fabric, or discarded clothing, her pieces maintain a tactile sensibility and approachable quality that emphasize detail, craftsmanship, and authenticity while celebrating the potential of everyday materials.

Katie aims for her work to provoke and inspire the realm of creative possibility. She cultivates her eye, and her viewers, to find beauty in the mundane.
